UPDATED: One man taken to hospital after house fire in Weymouth

One man has been taken to hospital after a house fire in Weymouth.

Two crews from Weymouth and one from Portland were called to Broadmeadow Road in Wyke Regis at 5.50am this morning.

A fire was found in a bedroom on the first floor of the property.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said:

"Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire – our stop came at 6.38am.

"Dorset Police and ambulance also attended."

There is no official confirmation yet of how the fire started.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"Dorset Police received a report at 5.51am on Tuesday 16 August 2022 of a possible fire at an address in Broadmeadow Road in Weymouth.

"Officers attended with the fire service and located a fire at a property. One man has been taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service. The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident."
