Prince of Wales First School is just one of many drop off points

Collection points for donations have been set up across Dorset to get vital aid to the people of Ukraine.

Sleeping bags, nappies and hygiene products are all in high demand.

We visited the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester who showed us the outpouring of support from the local community after just one day.

Pupils weren't at school yesterday due to an inset day, so even more donations are expected to be brought in by parents today.

The school is just one of many locations collecting things like blankets, baby food and hygiene items across Dorset.

This accumulated at POWFS reception in just 30 minutes yesterday.

'Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine' has been set up to transport charitable donations from drop off points in Dorset to east Poland where they can be delivered to those in need on the Ukrainian border.

The aim is for the first shipment to leave the depot in Castlepoint on Friday.

Gary Spracklen is headteacher at Prince of Wales First School. He said:

"There has been an incredible response from the Dorchester Community here today. We've had a steady stream of people all day long at the school, dropping items off.

"As far as we're concerned we can only do what we can do here right now, and what we can do is support people in this practical way.

"It's the very least we can do for the challenging circumstances that our continent and our world currently find themselves in."

"At the end of the day, young people learn from us. We are their example and in a crisis like this what better example than to help others?"

Drop off points include:

The Ranch, Weymouth

Boos Toy Shop, Poundbury
