Push to recruit on-call firefighters in Wareham and Bere Regis
DWFRS will be out in the towns this week
A special recruitment week's being held in Bere Regis and Wareham this week (from Monday 25th April) to boost on-call firefighter numbers.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue say they particularly need crew members for the towns and will be out and about to tell people about the role.
On-call firefighters live and work within the community they serve and respond to emergencies when needed.
Anyone aged over 18 can apply to get involved, and ideally need to be able to get to the fire station within five to eight minutes of a call-out.
They can attend incidents ranging from fires, to road traffic collisions, and flooding to animal rescues.
Station Manager Neil Tidball, the on-call development manager at DWFRS said:
“The role of a firefighter is very rewarding, and it requires determination, courage, motivation, and a genuine desire to serve the community. Successful candidates will become part of a well-trained workforce, earning additional income, and gaining transferable skills such as first aid, driving qualifications and health & safety knowledge - which can also benefit them in their primary employment.”
As part of the recruitment week, there will be two ‘have a go’ events, both between 7.00pm and 8.30pm:
- Wednesday 27th April at Bere Regis fire station, North Street
- Thursday 28th April at Wareham fire station, Worgret Road
You can find out more about becoming an on-call firefighter through the DWFRS website, emailing oncallsupportofficers@dwfire.org.uk or by calling 01722 691444.
