North Dorset resident fined after flytipping incident near Shaftesbury
The waste had been given to an unlicensed person to dispose of
A £400 fine has been issued to a North Dorset resident by Wiltshire Council, after their rubbish had been flytipped near Shaftesbury.
They'd given their waste to an unlicensed person to dispose of, and it was traced back to them after being found at Semley.
They got the fine as they couldn't demonstrate that they'd used a legitimate waste disposal carrier - as well as not asking to see an appropriate licence.
They also couldn't provide the contractors name, details, description or vehicle reg, and they paid in cash without getting a receipt.
We have a legal duty of care to ensure our household or business waste is disposed of correctly - we should always:
- Check a waste clearance service has a valid upper tier waste carrier licence
- Note their vehicle registration, make and model
- Get a receipt or waste transfer note

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport and Street Scene, said:
“We take fly-tipping very seriously here in Wiltshire, and we will always look to prosecute or issue fixed penalty notices where we can.
“As part of our ongoing We’re Targeting Fly-tippers (WTF) campaign, we have invested an extra £150,000 a year into tackling this environmental crime, including employing more enforcement staff to catch criminals, plus new technologies such as covert cameras."
