A North Dorset bridge will undergo some repairs this week, after damage was caused there by a road traffic collision.

The Durweston Bridge on the A357 near Blandford is Grade II listed, making the job more difficult for Dorset Council.

The bridge will be closed to traffic overnight from tonight (Monday 26th June), to Friday 30th June, from 6.30pm to 6.00am each night.

A signed diversion route will be in place

What's being done?

Specialist contractors will reinstalling the stonework that's been knocked into the river by the collision.

The existing bricks will be re-used and preserved, using careful restoration and cleaning.

The team's worked groups like the Environment Agency, and Historic England, when planning the repairs.

Councillor Ray Bryan, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, said:

“The Grade 2 Listed bridge spans the River Stour and forms the part of the busy route between Blandford and Sherborne/Sturminster Newton.

“Many heavy goods vehicles use this important road to make deliveries to businesses and residents, so our specialist team will be doing the work at night to minimise disruption. They will work to complete the work as quickly as possible and, in the meantime, I thank everyone for their patience."
