'Nighthawkers' damage farmland near Dorchester
Dorset Police are treating it as criminal damage
Farmland near Dorchester has been left damaged by so called 'nighthawkers', according to Dorset Police.
They're treating incidents last weekend (Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May), where holes were dug at maize fields in West Knighton, as criminal damage.
'Nighthawking' is the term used for people trespassing on land under cover of darkness to search for archaeological artefacts, often using metal detectors.
PC Paul Miners, of Dorset Police’s Rural Crime Team, said:
“We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and I would like to hear from anyone who has noticed suspicious activity with metal detectors in the area.”
