Public Health Dorset is asking people to celebrate the new year safely at home, with your household amid a significant rise in coronavirus cases.

There’s also been a jump in the number of people being hospitalised for the virus.

Latest figures show the county’s case rate jumped by 50 cases per hundred thousand in the past week.

On 16th December there were 69 cases per 100,000 people living in the county, compared with 120 per 100,000 on 23rd December.

The number of hospital beds occupied by those with coronavirus also jumped by 20 across Dorset Council and the BCP Council areas.

Dorset is currently under tier 2 restrictions, but a further review of tiers is expected in the coming days.
