New website to promote Dorchester's attractions and businesses
Dorchester Town Council want to increase footfall
A new website has been launched to help local residents and visitors explore and enjoy the Dorchester.
The website has over 400 listings of attractions, shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and places to stay in the town.
There is useful travel information, including locations of car parks, train stations and electric car charging points. Plus an easy to use events guide with all of the Christmas markets and seasonal events already listed.
The website, www.discoverdorchester.co.uk, is an extension of the pre-existing Discover Dorchester app with lots of added information and blogs to inspire people who are thinking about visiting the town.
Matilda Manley, Dorchester Tourism Development Officer for Dorchester Town Council, led on the creation of the website with Dorchester based company Key Digital Ltd and the Dorchester Tourism Partnership. She explained the thinking behind the website. “We were really lacking a central website for the town that helped everyone know what was going on and how to make the most of their time here. Dorchester is a fantastic and fascinating town and the website helps us to celebrate it, promote it and enjoy it.”
Cllr Gareth Jones, Mayor of Dorchester added “The website is a great step forward in giving easy access information on Dorchester and everything it contains. Dorchester has a very rich heritage stretching back 2000 years as well as a modern retail centre and wide ranging provision of open spaces and entertainment. It is a brilliant tool to be able to promote and increase tourism in Dorchester. I want to congratulate the Dorchester Tourism Partnership on this brilliant achievement!”.
Steve Wallis, Dorset Council’s Senior Archaeologist who was involved in the recent restoration of Dorchester’s fantastic Roman Town House added “Dorchester is rightly proud of its heritage and today it is even more aware of how its archaeology and history can enhance people’s lives. This website will help locals and visitors alike to discover more about heritage attractions and the many other things that make the town special, and to find out about particular events at these places.”
