A new date has been set for the Summer Fete in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare in Dorchester.

It'll take place in their meadow and gardens on Saturday 24th September.

The 25th edition of the event was due to have been held last Saturday (10th September), but was postponed, following the sad news that Her Majesty the Queen had died.

The charity, whose patron is the now King Charles III, say they're keen to go ahead.

This will be the first time the fete's been held since the pandemic, raising money for the charity's work providing palliative care and support for local families who have lost loved ones.

We're promised games, stalls, and activities, as well as music and entertainment, food and drink, and a Silent Auction which includes around 100 lots to bid on, throughout the day.

Clare Ash from Weldmar’s Fundraising Team is one of the organisers, and says:

“We have been really fortunate to have had so much support from colleagues, volunteers and the local community in putting together this event. It is great to see so many people helping out in various ways to support the charity and we can’t thank them enough for the time they have put in to helping us.

“Having not had the Summer Fete for the past couple of years, it’s going to be really special to get everyone back together again. We would like to thank everyone who has actively helped us reschedule this event, following the news of The Queen, to ensure we can still deliver it this year.”

The Summer Fete will be held between 11.00am and 4.00pm at the Inpatient Unit on Herringston Road.

Entry is £2 for adults, with children going free.

A free shuttle bus service will be running to the event from the Market car park in Dorchester.

The Fete is being supported by HSBC UK.

Rachel Hill, Local Director there, said:

"Weldmar have been a key local partner for us over the last few years with many of our team volunteering as part of the paid volunteering leave the bank provides as an employee benefit. So when the opportunity arose to support the Summer Fete we immediately knew it would be something we wanted to support as we have had the privilege to see first-hand the amazing work carried out by the team at Weldmar.

"We have a number of our branches within our local area where Weldmar support the local community, so it seemed a fantastic opportunity to show our support and appreciation for what they do. We are excited to be there on the day supporting the event with some of our local team.”
