The rules have been set for the upcoming World Nettle Eating Championship, set to take place in Dorset next month.

Details for the event - which involves competitors aiming to eat as many stinging nettles as possible - have been released, ahead of the championship, taking place on June 21st.

The event is to return to the Bottle Inn pub in Marshwood following a six-year break, where prospective competitors will eat as many nettles as they can within the space of an hour.

This year, just forty competitors will be allowed to take part in the competition, and will have to sign a disclaimer before taking part in the event.

The competition will take place at 5pm and will last for one hour as participants take in as many as two-foot lengths of stinging nettle as possible.

On top of this, organisers have also announced a secondary competition to see who can grow the longest nettle within a ten-mile radius of the Bottle Inn itself.

All interested punters will have to deliver the nettles to the Bottle Inn by 6pm on June 20th, one day before the eating competition.

The organisers have confirmed that the winner will also be announced following the eating competition the following day.
