Nearly a million sunflowers have been planted at Maiden Castle to say thank you to NHS staff.

Maiden Castle Farm planted the 900,000 sunflowers there ahead of one of the farmer's sons 18th birthday.

From the top of the castle you can look down on the field and see the words "Love life" inscribed in the field.

Hazel Hoskin's told Greatest Hits Radio:

"It's to celebrate life basically. My son was born at 26 weeks and spent time at Dorchester special care baby unit.

"It just felt fitting that we celebrated his 18th in a nice uplifiting way."

"There were times when it was very dark and we didn't know if Thomas was going to make it or not, and then there's uplifting times when he made progress so quickly when he was on the right path.

"But the nurses and the doctors... they were all just there for such morale support, emotionally."

Visitors to the field can walk through the paths through the field where the words 'love' and 'life' are carved.

There are also other attractions and an area for picnics.

Some of the proceeds will be going to Dorset County Hospital Charity and the Special Care Baby Unit.

Hazel added:

"I mean we can't thank the NHS enough can we? This pandemic has been something that none of us ever imagined would happen.

"Those nurses and doctors and NHS support staff have worked so hard.

"They've just done everything for this community, so if we can give just a little bit back and let people enjoy the sunflowers while doing that, then what's wrong with that really?"

The fields are open to visitors from 12pm until 6pm. You can find out more on their social media pages.
