People across Dorset are being urged to hand in any zombie knives or machetes to police ahead of a ban.

For the next month, you can surrender them and claim compensation before they're outlawed on 24 September.

18 year old Cameron Hamilton was stabbed to death in Bournemouth last August.

His mum, Sarah Robinson, has since launched an anti-knife campaign and told us her son's death shouldn't be in vain:

"Getting Cameron out there just makes it more real and relevant to people.

"If they've got children and young adults in their life, this is something we need to try and prevent happening to other families," she says.

The county's Police Commissioner David Sidwick says carrying a knife is not worth the risk:

"You are much more likely to get wounded or hurt if you are part of that particular fraternity. And actually, if you are found to possess a knife you commit a criminal offence.

"And in so doing, you are prejudicing your future," he says.

Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey says having them in our communities has numerous ramifications:

"If you are in possession of a knife, you're more likely to use it and you're more likely to be a victim of it being used against you."
