More information needed before decision on Weymouth Ferry return
Dorset Council responds to reports Weymouth's cross-channel ferry could be coming back.
Could Weymouth's cross-channel ferry service be returning after seven years?
The town's last sailing took place in 2015 before Condor Ferries moved it's service to Poole.
Dorset Council has now been handed an outline proposal that could see some form of ferry return to Weymouth.
But, a spokesperson for Dorset Council said more information is needed:
“Last June Dorset Council agreed with Weymouth Town Council that they would provide a costed business plan, within 12 months, for a potential future ferry service to operate out of Weymouth.
“Dorset Council recently received an initial outline proposal, but it does not acknowledge some of the fundamental considerations that we expected, and needed, to see. We have asked Weymouth Town Council to provide more detail including costs, which are critical for us to understand fully, before any decision can be made.
“Cllr Spencer Flower, Leader of Dorset Council, has invited Cllr David Harris of Weymouth Town Council to a meeting to present the findings of their exploratory work into the possible return of a ferry service to Weymouth.”
