Another big brand name has gone from Weymouth high street.

Monsoon Accessorize closed its doors for a final time yesterday.

The closure was originally announced in December when a sign was put up in the shop.

It read:

"It's time to say goodbye to our friends in Weymouth.

"We have loved being part of this beautiful town but sadly we will be closing our doors for the last time on Wednesday 5th January.

"Your nearest Monsoon Accessorize store is Bournemouth, Castlepoint or Exeter.

"Thank you for the support over the years.

"Team Weymouth."

The company has so far declined to comment.

Other big names that have gone from Weymouth high street include, Debenhams, which has now become The Range and Dorthy Perkins.

Rick Simmonds acting President of Weymouth & Portland Chamber of Commerce told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

“Whilst we’ve known this day was coming well before Christmas, it’s sad that the closure is now a reality. Our thoughts as a Chamber are with the staff affected. I note that Weymouth Town Council continue to work closely with the business community in challenging times and I encourage them to do all they can to support those affected by the recent closures in the town and also help the many shops that still have their doors open; a particularly tough time for many ‘out of season’.

"As a Chamber, we will continue to represent local business needs and challenges through our conversations with local Government, alongside the Dorset Chamber and British Chambers Of Commerce”.
