Holidaymakers and day trippers heading to Lulworth this summer are being urged to check army training times to avoid putting themselves in danger.

The Lulworth Ranges are open to the public but are also where Armed Forces practice live-fire training.

The MOD's now launched a public safety campaign called 'Respect the Range', highlighting the risks, which include unexploded ordnance and fast moving military vehicles.

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD), say:

"Accessing military estates when it is not safe to do so not only places unsuspecting visitors in harms way, but can also put service personnel at risk, interrupt vital training exercises and impact on the Armed Forces’ ability to prepare to deploy in real-life situations."

To protect themselves and stay safe while using military land, the MOD is asking visitors to:

Check training times before they travel.

Stick to public access routes

Observe safety information including red flags, fences, signs and by-laws while on military land
