If you spotted last night’s fireball fall through the night’s sky, you were one of a select few.

Modern technology has made sure you don’t miss out though – many of those with digital doorbells were notified to movement outside their houses last night.

Many would have dismissed it as just a cat or a fox, but in fact it was an extra-terrestrial rock, burning up as it entered the atmosphere.

Tristan White and fiancée Holly Mitchener from Wimborne Minster were notified on their phones.

Tristan said:

"My fiancée Holly and I were just sat watching TV when we got a notification from the front door saying there was motion outside, which wasn't out of the ordinary, but I thought I'd check it out.

"We occasionally get notified on the doorbell camera that there's motion outside and it's either the wind blowing the branches in front of the camera, flies, cats, or foxes, but I really wasn't expecting to see that! We just got really lucky that it fell perfectly in the middle of the frame and it was a perfectly clear night.

"We've caught a shooting star on there before, but it just looked like a fast light across the sky, but this was something more spectacular that at first glance almost looked like a missile. It's just a real shame that we weren't there to see it in real life."
