Medical bills worth £16,000 have been waived for a 72-year-old cancer patient who fled Ukraine to be with family in Weymouth.

Alla Yuzhakova's bill was dropped by the Royal Marsden NHS Trust in London, a specialist cancer treatment hospital.

Her family are thanking the hospital for helping relieve pressure as they try to overturn a Home Office decision on Alla's visa.

Alla applied for permanent residency just as war was breaking out in the country so that her family members could support her. The application costs £4,000.

But last week the Home Office denied Alla's request to stay here full time with her only family members.

South Dorset MP Richard Drax said:

"I am very relieved that she has made it to Weymouth and is now safe with her family.

"I have been in contact with the Home Office and hope to get her visa sorted out as soon as possible."

Greatest Hits Radio Dorset has been told the Home Office has passed Ms Yuzhakova's case up to senior management.

But, the Home Office has not provided a comment as of yet.
