A man's been taken into police custody after spending 10 hours on a roof in Weymouth yesterday.

Police attended an address in Lower St Alban Street at around 10.47am yesterday morning, after a concern for welfare was raised about a woman.

It was reported that a man known to her, who was wanted in connection with allegations of assault , was there.

Officers attended and they found a man on a roof.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"Efforts were made to engage with the man and take him to safety. Road closures were put in place in Lower St Alban Street and Commercial Road as a precaution.

"At around 9.30pm the man and woman left the property. The woman was safeguarded and the man was taken to hospital as a precaution before being taken into police custody.

"We appreciate this incident resulted in the closure of roads and disruption to members of the public for a significant period of time and we would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while the cordon was in place."

"Local officers will be in the vicinity today, Wednesday 16 February 2022, conducting high visibility patrols and we would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to the officers."
