A man in his 80's has been seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a car in Lyme Regis.

Dorset Police were called at 4.38pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 29 June) to reports of an accident on Broad Street involving a grey Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian - a man aged in his 80s from Bristol - sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The driver of the Fiesta - a woman aged in her 70s from Birmingham - was not physically injured, but was left shaken.

Broad Street was closed between Silver Street and Anning Road while emergency services treated the injured man and remains closed while collision investigators examine the scene.

Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said:

"The Fiesta was leaving the Broad Street short stay car park when the collision occurred. I am aware that this road was really busy at the time and I am sure that someone would have witnessed what happened, but they have not yet come forward. I would urge them to please get in touch to help with our enquiries.

"I would also ask any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to please check their dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance."
