Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said:

"We are carrying out an investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses to the incident who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

"I would also urge anyone who was travelling along the Puddletown Bypass around the time of the collision and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check their footage for anything relevant.

"Finally, I appreciate this collision resulted in the closure of a major trunk road for a number of hours and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding.
