A man's been rescued after falling into the sea at Portland Bill.

A major rescue operation was launched around 4.49pm yesterday afternoon involving Weymouth Lifeboat crews and the coastguard helicopter.

The man had fallen from the cliff into the water near Pulpit Rock and with the help of a coasteering instructor had managed to pull himself out of the sea onto rocks.

A spokesperson for Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"Once Weymouth Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene the casualty was transferred aboard.

"Weymouth ILB crew then gave casualty care and recovered the male back to shore.

"The casualty was then taken into the care of SWAST Paramedics and Air Ambulance crew for a full assessment."
