Man rescued from frozen lake in Weymouth
He was helped out of Radipole Lake by coastguard crews
A man has been pulled out of Radipole Lake in Weymouth - after struggling to escape from the icy waters for 13 minutes.
Wyke and Portland Bill coastguards were called out at around 3.20am on Sunday morning (18th December) to help.
Luckily, the man was OK and looked after by paramedics.
This incident comes just a week after four boys fell through the ice and drowned at a lake in Solihull.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue's Charlie Pack urges people to be aware that the ice on frozen lakes isn't as thick as it seems:
"We haven't had wintry conditions sufficient for a lots of our waters to freeze completely, so just be mindful that the water will of course be very cold.
"It can take your breath away and cause you to not be able to swim, as your body could suffer from something called cold water shock. There's also the risk of hypothermia, which lowers your body temperature and can result in death."
