A young driver's suffered life-threatening injuries after his car was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry near Sherborne.

Emergency services were called to the A30 at Babylon Hill - near the junction with Marl Lane - just after 4.00pm yesterday (Tuesday 20th February).

The driver of a blue Mini Cooper, a Yeovil man in his 20's, was airlifted to Bristol's Southmead Hospital.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The road had to be closed for nearly seven and a half hours while investigations were carried out.

There's now an appeal for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the Roads Policing Team, said:

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who may have captured any relevant dashcam footage.

“Finally, I appreciate this incident led to the closure of a main road for a period of several hours and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while this was in place. The closure was necessary to allow emergency services to safely respond and for a detailed examination of the collision scene to be carried out.”
