A man has been jailed for causing a fatal accident in North Dorset that claimed the life of 23-year-old woman.
Aron Simon James Dunn, aged 30 and of Addison Close, Gillingham, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court today (Friday 21 October) to two and half years in prison after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.
Dunn was disqualified from driving for four years.
At around 8.15pm on Saturday 1 May 2021 Dorset Police received a report of a single vehicle collision on the B3081 Shaftesbury Road between Shaftesbury and Gillingham, near to the access to Port Regis School.
The vehicle involved was an Audi A6 Allroad, which was being driven by the defendant.
Witnesses described seeing the vehicle overtaking other cars at speed before he lost control as he negotiated a left-hand bend. The Audi left the carriageway and collided with a tree.
Very sadly, the rear seat passenger of the vehicle – 23-year-old Jade Louise Elliott-Davis – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dunn and his front seat passenger were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.
A sample of the defendant’s blood was taken at hospital at around 2am the following morning. It was calculated from this that at the time of the collision, the presence of alcohol in his blood would have been not lower than 105 micrograms per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
Dunn was also driving without a valid licence and did not have insurance.
Police Constable Leanne Howes, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family of Jade, whose young life was tragically cut short by this collision.
“Nothing will ever make up for their loss, but our investigation team has worked tirelessly to establish the full facts of this collision and compile evidence so we could hold Aron Dunn to account for his actions on the evening of Saturday 1 May 2021.
“This case is yet another sad reminder of the truly devastating consequences that can occur when motorists such as Aron Dunn drive with disregard for the safety of themselves and others while their judgement is impaired by alcohol consumption."
Tribute to Jade
Following the sentencing hearing, Jade's mum has issued the following tribute: "After losing Jade we are heartbroken, Jade was the light of my life, she has a smile that would light up a room, she was so kind and honest and would help anyone in need.
"A day doesn't go by when I say she should be here, she was only 23 and had her whole life in front of her, it was taken away with no goodbyes, she will be forever missed and loved always.
"I am left with an empty space where she should be, and nothing will ever fill that space in our hearts or our home."
