A two vehicle collision on the A31 near Sturminster Marshall has left one man needing hospital treatment.

A brown Mitsubishi Outlander and a Ford Tourneo were involved in a crash at Stag Gate, just after 3.00pm on Friday (4th August).

The Ford was towing a caravan at the time.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital, but his injuries aren't thought to be serious.

The occupants of the Ford weren't hurt.

There's now a Dorset Police investigation into what happened.

PC Rich Shirley, of the traffic unit, said:

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage, including the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to the incident.

“This collision resulted in the closure of a main trunk road during a busy period as the emergency services responded and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the incident.”

The road was closed for around three hours on Friday afternoon.
