A man has been arrested in Weymouth after being found in possession of suspected drugs and a lock knife.

A police officer made the arrest at The Marsh Playing Fields on Friday.

The man was detained for a search but resisted and as a result was arrested.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said:

"He was later found to be in possession of suspected Class A and B drugs, and a lock knife, enquires continue."

The officer who was alone, was helped by a member of the public.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police added:

"Many thanks to the member of public who assisted the single crewed officer. We weren’t able to get your details but would like you to get in touch so we can pass on our thanks."

Dorset Police say they will be continuing with patrols in the area.

They have also asked the council to remove rubbish and garden furniture from the area, to help reduce anti-social behaviour.
