Man found 'unresponsive' in sea off Chesil Beach

A man in his 40's from the Dorchester area has died after being found in the sea near Abbotsbury on Easter Monday

A man has died after being found in the sea off Chesil Beach near Abbotsbury.

Dorset Police say they were called at 10.50am on Easter Monday, after sightings of a man who was unresponsive in the sea.

Police were helped by the coastguard to recover the man from the water.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"Very sadly the man, aged in his 40s and from the Dorchester area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin has been informed. Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.

"HM Coroner has been notified."
