Man due in court after three hour stand off with police in Weymouth

A man is due in court today charged with criminal damage after an incident in Weymouth.

Officers were called to an address in Abbotsbury Road yesterday morning, after reports of a man causing damage to a property and refusing to leave.

It took three hours of negotiations before police were able to gain entry to the property.

A 36-year-old man was detained.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"Officers attended the scene and attempts were made to engage with the man. Shortly after 1.40pm entry was gained and the man was detained.

"A 36-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with an offence of criminal damage. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 31 March)."
