Man on crutches assaulted on Weymouth seafront
A man in his 60's who uses crutches was attacked on Weymouth Esplanade
A man on crutches has been assaulted on Weymouth seafront.
Police have just released details of the incident that happened last month.
The victim, a man aged in his 60s, was walking along Weymouth Esplanade at around 5pm on Thursday 23 December 2021. He uses crutches due to mobility issues and as he passed one of the seafront shelters near to the public toilets, a man sitting in the shelter began shouting abuse at him for being on crutches.
The offender then ran after the victim and grabbed him by the collar before shaking him, causing him to lose his balance.
The victim did not suffer any serious injuries.
Description of offender
The offender is described as white, aged between 35 and 40, taller than five feet eight inches and of medium build with scruffy brown shoulder-length hair. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a dark-coloured top, dark grey trousers and white trainers.
Police Constable Kristy Heron, of Dorset Police, said:
“This was an unprovoked assault on a vulnerable victim and we are making every effort to find the man responsible.
“I appreciate the incident was some time ago, but we have just been able to obtain full details from the victim and I would urge anyone who has any information that might assist our investigation to please contact us.”
