Man charged with multiple driving offences after Abbotsbury collision

A police officer sustained serious leg injuries following the collision

A man's been charged with multiple driving offences following a collision in Abbotsbury.

It happened last Wednesday afternoon, after Dorset Police received reports at 4:45pm that a suspected stolen car, a red Honda Jazz, was spotted in the Alexandra Road area of Bridport.

The car reportedly failed to stop, and was later involved in a collision with a police vehicle.

An officer sustained a serious leg injury.

The car and a bus later collided in the area of Abbotsbury Hill area.

A 31-year-old man from Bridport has now been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance, failing to stop after a road accident, driving whilst disqualified and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He is next due before Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 12 September.

A 39-year-old man from Bournemouth, who was arrested on suspicion of driving offences, remains in hospital at this time.
