Sir Richard Sutton: Man appears in court charged with Dorset Millionaire's murder

A man has been charged has appeared in court in connection with the murder of one of the UK's richest men.

On Wednesday Sir Richard Sutton was stabbed to death at his home in Higher Langham near Gillingham.

Tributes have been paid to the landowner and hotelier, his company Sir Richard Sutton Ltd have released a statement:

"Our thoughts are with Anne Schreiber, who remains in a critical condition in hospital and was a hugely important part of Sir Richard's life, especially in his later years. After caring for Sir Richard for a long period, we in turn wish her a swift and full recovery.

"Though separated, Sir Richard also remained on good terms with his wife, Lady Fiamma, and very close to their children, who are mourning the loss of a devoted father. Employees across the group have been united in their shock at what has happened and will need time to come to terms with the loss of such an influential figure."

THOMAS SCHREIBER CHARGED WITH MURDER

Police were called to the Higher Langham property at around 7:30pm and attended the address where they found Sir Richard Sutton and Anne Schreiber both with serious injuries.

It is believed both had sustained stab wounds.

The ambulance service also attended. Very sadly, Richard was pronounced dead at the scene at around 9.15pm.

An initial post-mortem examination that was conducted on Friday 9 April 2021 indicated that the cause of death was stab wounds to his chest.

The injured woman was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where she remains in a critical condition.

The family of the victims are continuing to be kept fully updated by members of the investigation team.

Following enquiries, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the Hammersmith area of London on the evening of Wednesday 7 April 2021.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and was subsequently taken into police custody on his release from hospital.

Thomas Schreiber, aged 34 and from the Gillingham area, has was charged with murder, attempted murder and dangerous driving.

He appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court on Monday 12 April 2021, but entered no plea.

Schreiber's been remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Tuesday April 13.
