A man's been assaulted, after he and a woman were threatened with a hammer in Weymouth on New Year's Day.

Police tell us two victims were in a Fiat Panda on Grosvenor Road at around 6.00am on Wednesday (1st January) when a man armed with a tool approached them.

They attempted to speak to him, and the male victim got out of the car and was assaulted.

The suspect's then alleged to have got into the passenger seat and demanded the female victim drove him around town, including to the Esso garage in King Street.

She wasn't injured in the incident.

He's been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
