Man assaulted during attempted vehicle theft in Bridport

A man's been assaulted as he tried to get his car keys back during an attempted theft in Bridport.

Dorset Police tell us the owner of a black VW discovered his keys were missing, as the car was parked on a driveway in Orchard Avenue at around 5.00pm on Sunday (6th August).

Then at around 12.30am yesterday (Monday 7th August), a man and woman arrived at the address and tried to get into the vehicle.

The victim confronted them and got his keys back, but was assaulted.

A 32 year old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted theft and assault.

There's now an appeal for any information.

PC Harry Chaplin, of Weymouth police, said:

“We are continuing to make enquiries into this incident and I would urge any witnesses to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any residents who may have captured anything of significance on home CCTV, or motorists with relevant dashcam footage.”
