UPDATED: Dorset Police investigate sudden death of man in Weymouth

Dorset Police are investigating the sudden death of a man in Weymouth – with one man arrested.

At around 12.20pm on Monday 11 October 2021 officers received a report from the ambulance service of the sudden death of a man aged in his 50s at an address in Portmore Gardens.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death are being carried out by detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).

A post-mortem examination took place on the morning of Tuesday 12 October 2021. The initial cause of death is undetermined and further toxicology tests have been requested.

A man aged in his 20s from Weymouth, who was known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Wayne Seymour, of MCIT, said: “A detailed investigation has been launched and I would appeal to anyone with information that may assist our enquiries to contact us.

“At this time the cause of death is not clear, but we are following all lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances.

“Officers are keeping the victim’s family updated with any developments and they continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

“There has been an increased police presence at the scene while we continue to investigate the incident and local officers can be approached by members of the community with any information or concerns.”
