Man arrested on suspicion of rape released without charge

Detectives say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident

A man arrested in connection with a reported rape in Christchurch has been released without charge.

Dorset Police received a report at 8.32am on Friday 21 October 2022 that a woman had been raped by a man, who she had met earlier, in the early hours of that morning in the underpass in Saxon Square.

An investigation was launched by detectives from Bournemouth CID and a 46-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of rape. He was subsequently released on police bail.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"Following further enquiries by detectives, the arrested man has now been released from bail without charge.

"Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."
