Man arrested after fight breaks out in Weymouth town centre

A woman was allegedly assaulted a short time before in St Mary Street

Police are looking for witnesses to a fight in Weymouth town centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident involving a man and a group of people happened around The Crown Hotel in St Thomas Street at around 12.24am.

Officers attended and the group dispersed.

It was further reported that the man allegedly assaulted a woman a short time before in St Mary Street. She did not sustain any injuries.

A 41-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Police Constable Lauren Edwards, of Weymouth police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the alleged assault involving the man and woman to please come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from any who may have been in the area at the time of the reported fight and saw what happened.”
