Police in Weymouth are investigating an attempted burglary at a local social club - and have arrested one man.

The alarm sounded and a window was broken at the Centenary Club in Jubilee Close at around 4.00am yesterday morning (Friday 12th August).

Officers attended and following a search, arrested a 29 year old man from Bridport on suspicion of attempted burglary.

A number of items linked to the alleged offender were also found in Radipole Gardens nearby.

Detective Constable David Pearce, of Weymouth CID, said:

“Our investigation is ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone with information or anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to please contact us.

“I appreciate this was in the very early hours of the morning, but our enquiries suggest there may have been a dog walker and possibly another member of the public in the vicinity around the time of the incident. I would urge these people to please get in touch as they may have information to assist our enquiries.”
