A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and driving offences after a police chase across Bournemouth and Christchurch.

A car reportedly failed to stop for officers in Hampshire who informed their Dorset colleagues that the vehicle was believed to be heading into the county.

The car was driven the wrong way around the Lansdowne roundabout in Bournemouth at around 10.45pm on Friday.

It was later spotted in Highcliffe before being brought to halt in Hurn Village.

Police said the occupants reportedly left the car on foot and a search of the area was carried out involving the police helicopter.

The 21-year-old man was released on police bail.
