A man and woman have been rescued by firefighters after falling into Weymouth harbour.

The incident happened at Custom House Quay on Friday night.

A third person, a woman who also fell in, managed to get themselves out.

Fire crews who were passing saw what happened and stepped in to help.

Dorset Council say the incident happened where there are currently no safety railings, but they are due to be installed shortly.

A spokesman for the council said:

"Our Harbour Master made us aware of this incident over the weekend.

"We're relieved that it wasn't much worse and want to thank our colleagues at Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue and South Western Ambulance Service for their help."
