Man airlifted to hospital after collapsing on coast path near Osmington

Rescue teams as well as the coastguard helicopter were scrambled to the coast path near Osmington yesterday afternoon

Rescue teams including the coastguard helicopter were sent to the coast path near Weymouth yesterday afternoon.

A man had collapsed at Osmington, near to the Smugglers Inn.

A spokesperson for Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"We were tasked just after 2pm along with Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team & Rescue Helicopter 175 to a collapsed male on the SW Coast Path.

"The casualty was just East of The Smugglers Inn at the top of the hill.

"Arriving on scene we found Paramedics with and treating the now conscious casualty, it was decided to airlift him to Dorchester A&E.

"The casualty was winched into the aircraft in an operation which closed the SW Coast Path for the publics safety. We thank those inconvenienced for their patience."
