SGN are closing part of the Rodwell Road, Junction with Wyke Road in Weymouth to investigate a gas leak.

The urgent work has been scheduled as the leak has been there for some time.

On Tuesday 12th October, the Boot Hill traffic lights will be switched off and will be controlled by temporary signals, which could cause a traffic build up in the area.

The signals will be in place from 9:30am on the Tuesday but from then SGN will temporarily control the traffic lights from 7am to 7pm.

They will be in place until the leak is repaired, which could take three days, maybe longer.

SGN has stated that if the leak increases between now and Tuesday, they will need to attend as an emergency and the temporary signals implemented immediately.

Chloe Boyce, Spokesperson for SGN said:

"Work is due to start on Tuesday in Rodwell Road, junction with Wyke Road, in Weymouth. We’ve been monitoring a gas escape at this location for some time and now we need to investigate the cause.

"To ensure the safety of the public and our engineers, we will use temporary two-way traffic lights. The existing traffic lights at this junction will be switched off while we undertake our work.

"We understand this is a particularly sensitive traffic route and our engineers will work as quickly and safely as possible to complete the required repairs. However, it’s too early to say how long the work will take at this stage."
