66 new homes planned for Littlemoor

Aster Group is asking Dorset Council to build off Louviers Road in Weymouth

An application for 66 homes has been lodged for a 2.5 hectare site south of Louviers Road, Cornflower Close and Gentian Way at Littlemoor.

The proposal, from Aster group, comes to Dorset Council with more than 70 documents including a biodiversity survey and an assessment of the site’s flood risk.

It also deals with the likely effect of additional traffic on the road network in the area and gives details of the 114 car parking spaces proposed for the estate.

Two road access points are proposed – off Louviers Road on the bend close to an electricity sub station, and through a neighbouring development via Gentian Way.

Affordable housing

Thirty of the new homes will be either three or four-bed and nine two bed with the rest of the site listed as social housing, affordable or intermediate rental properties. Ten of these will be one bed flats of maisonettes, eight two-bed properties and five three bed.

The site previously had outline consent for 58 homes and, if approved, will be alongside the Lodmoor Sands development from Persimmon Homes, the first of the latest developments south of Louviers Road.

Other big housing schemes are planned for the future north of the main road which could eventually bring an extra 500 homes to the area.

The developers say the latest expansion of Littlemoor will have an extensive area of public open space in the centre of the site, linking into another open area on the western edge behind a block of flats. There is also an area for ecology planting located on the northern boundary next to the entrance to the adjacent housing site.

The new homes are mostly two storey and are either detached, semi-detached, terraced or flats. The roofs will mostly be front to back with some units having full gables fronting public areas to add visual interest and break up the massing. Other variations to add visual interest include roof gablets and projecting bay windows. The proposed materials for the new homes are similar to those in the neighbouring area.

The site will include informal play space with grass mounds and boulders with seating for adults.

The site, mainly because of the natural slope, is assessed as a one in 1,000 year flood risk although where the site joins Louviers Road where there is a drain in place that small area is assessed as a one in a 100 year risk. Both are considered ‘acceptable’ risks.

Public comments on the full planning application, reference P/FUL/2021/01697, which can be seen on the Dorset Council website, remain open until June 21st.
