Lifeguards patrolling Lyme Regis beach this week have dealt with three medical incidents in one day - with the RNLI praising their efforts.

They helped a person who'd fallen from the north wall of the beach onto the rock groyne on Monday afternoon (12th August).

The casualty suffered a suspected head and spinal injury and was in distress, so lifeguards and a support volunteer helped to stabilise them until paramedics arrived.

The Solent Coastguard and South Western Ambulance Service were called out, with an area of the beach cleared for an air ambulance to land.

Critical care paramedics took the person taken to hospital.

That incident was on the same day as lifeguards helped a person who’d broken their elbow and another incident where somebody had a medical episode.

Alice Higgins, Lead Lifeguard Supervisor for West Dorset said:

"I’d like to thank our lifeguards for their hard work and professionalism in a testing to situation to aid the casualty whilst maintaining the public’s safety on the beach.

"Also a thank you to our fellow emergency service teams at the Coastguard, Air and Land ambulance crews and Lyme Regis Town Council to ensure the best possible outcome was reached."
