Weymouth lifeboat rescues paddle boarders
A man and woman had drifted around 1.1 miles out to sea
Two paddle boarders have been rescued off the coast of Weymouth.
Weymouth's RNLIS All weather lifeboat was launched just after 1pm yesterday (24 April) after the paddle boarders, a man and woman aged 27 and 23, got into difficulty around one mile out to sea.
The rough weather conditions meant the Coastguard helicopter was used to transfer them to the old Portland helicopter base.
On Friday, the RNLI issued the following warning; "These strong easterly winds which are forecast to increase in strength on Friday through to Saturday mean beaches along the south coast - which are usually sheltered from the prevailing winds - are experiencing dangerous conditions. Please think twice and consider the risk before carrying out any sea-based activities. This includes swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and even coastal walking".
