A person was taken to hospital after Poole RNLI lifeboat was launched to assist a 29ft vessel in Poole Harbour on Sunday afternoon.

UK Coastguard requested the launch at 1.30pm on Sunday the 20th April. The vessel had three other people on board and was initially reported to be near Brownsea Roads.

Poole Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) were tracking the vessel and informed the lifeboat crew that it was making good speed and was in fact closer to Stakes.

Conditions in the harbour were calm, with a westerly breeze. Once on scene, two lifeboat volunteers transferred across to the vessel and provided casualty care. An ambulance was requested and Poole Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to the incident.

The lifeboat then escorted the vessel to Poole Town Quay Boat Haven. Staff there helped with mooring the vessel.

The casualty was transferred into the care of the ambulance crew and taken to hospital.

The lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service again by 3pm.

Volunteer helm Stirling Taylor said: “Thank you to all that assisted with today's shout — Poole VTS and Poole Quay Boat Haven staff, it was very much appreciated. We all wish the poorly casualty well.”
