Coastguard Rescue teams were called to a cliff near Bowleaze Cove yesterday to help Lenny the Labrador.

Lenny had fallen 20ft down a cliff on the island and broken his leg.

His owner had found a safe way to get down the cliff and comforted Lenny until help arrived from Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team and Wyke Rescue CRT.

A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard CRT said:

"We arrived on scene and immediately began setting up a technical rope rescue system to enable recovery.

"Two team members accessed the casualty site from the bottom and decided the quickest and least traumatic method of extraction for Lenny would be directly up the cliff.

"His injury was stabilised before the short ride to the top in our animal rescue bag and swiftly on to the vets."
