Last chance to apply for funds for Queen's Platinum Jubilee events
Weymouth Town Council is giving out donations of £500 to charity groups and schools
The clock is ticking for charity groups, not for profit organisations and schools to apply for funds to put on a community event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
There are some great events taking place across the town, after groups successfully applied for grants from Weymouth Town Council.
Anyone wishing to apply can do so before the extended closing date of 4pm on Wednesday 11th May.
Events so far include a family fun day and beacon lighting organised by the Parish of Wyke Regis, All Saints with St Edmunds Churches, and a community picnic at the Marsh, organised by Westham Community Group.
The Friends of Greenhill Gardens are holding a street party on the tennis courts by the gardens, and the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens will hold a raffle in aid of funding a defibrillator during a fun day at the Old Spa Pub.
Littlemoor Community Action Group applied to have a street party-style event at the local community centre, and Southill Park and Recreation for Kids are holding a community event. Sutton Pointz Society host an exhibition, and the 3rd Wyke Regis Guide Unit are also holding a picnic.
Funding of up to £500 per group is available to meet the costs of community events over the special bank holiday weekend (Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022).
Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne and we want to make sure that our communities are able to come together to celebrate this very special occasion. We hope to be able to support a wide range of events taking place over the special bank holiday weekend.”
This money will not be able to fund street parties in residential streets, however if a community group wanted to hold a street party style-event in a community hall/space/outdoor green then this will be considered. Grants are not available for commercial events.

Applications close at 4pm on Wednesday 11th May.
