Full programme of fundraisers planned for Dorset's Julia's House

The charity's income has been hit hard by the pandemic

Dorset's children's hospice, Julia's House, hasn't been able to hold their fundraising events for the last two years, due to Covid rules.

That's meant a 'disappointing' time when it comes to their finances, when the need for the support they provide for young people with life limiting conditions and their families hasn't gone away.

Events Manager Hannah Miller says fundraising events are vital for them :

"It's so important to us because we do rely on the local community to support us and for our donations. We only receive 6% funding from the Government, so 94% of what we're raising is actually coming from people in the community supporting us."

The charity's need to keep income rolling in means they're bringing back their full programme of fundraising events for 2022.

Among the activities we can take part are:

  • Trek the Jurassic Coast: A 13 or 26 mile walk along Dorset's coastline on the 26th June, with cliff top climbs and breath-taking views, finishing with a party at Harry Warren House in Studland, overlooking Old Harry Rocks
  • Run Bournemouth: The running festival on the 8th and 9th October includes events ranging from 5K, 10K or a half marathon, as well as junior races
  • Tailor-made treks: Julia's House can support groups or businesses to go out for a hike in Dorset in support of the charity, with help from specially trained guides
  • Bath Half Marathon: The charity has places for the event on the 29th May for anyone up for the challenge of a hilly city centre circuit

Hannah Miller from Julia's House says our support is key for the families they help day in, day out:

"Obviously the last couple of years has been really disappointing in terms of fundraising and not being able to get out there to raise money for our families who really need it. They've gone through such a tough time, and we just want to be there for them. We think it's been tough in isolation, but it's just been another level for them."

Julia's House have tried to keep their sessions going as much as possible during the pandemic

You can sign up for any of the Julia's House challenges in 2022 via their website.

The charity say they're taking every precaution and guidance with regards to Covid and are confident they can go ahead with the events.

If they do have to be cancelled though, Julia's House will give participants the option to withdraw or postpone to 2023.
