Julia’s House is encouraging Dorset shoppers to buy pre-loved gifts in their charity shops this year for a more sustainable Christmas.

The children’s hospice charity has festively decorated it's chain of 13 high street shops across Wiltshire and Dorset, and is ready to welcome shoppers.

Pre-loved Christmas gifts have seen an explosion in popularity recently, with people wanting to reduce their environmental impact and Money Saving Expert’s Martin Lewis urging consumers to shop frugally.

Julia’s House retail manager Tracy Stanley said:

“Sustainable shopping is big news right now – there has never been a better time to browse your local charity shop for that perfect present for a loved one.

“In October alone we sold 63,473 items – that’s 63,473 items that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. Many of the items we sell are second-hand, but many have never been used. There are lots of as-new bargains to be found across all 13 of our shops in Wiltshire and Dorset, including clothes, accessories, homeware, electrical items, toys and games, books and much more.

“Shopping with Julia’s House is a great way to make a positive contribution towards the environment, while helping local families who desperately need our support.”

Julia’s House also stocks its own range of Christmas cards, a 2022 diary and a wall calendar featuring beautiful photography of locations across the two counties. All items sold through the charity’s shops raise money to help the families of seriously ill children who may not live into adulthood.

The seriously ill children Julia’s House cares for have complex needs and require specialist clinical, physical and emotional support around the clock. The charity’s nurses and carers tailor their support to the needs of each family and are there for the whole family - for anxious and exhausted parents and to give frightened brothers and sisters some time just for them. The charity provides its vital respite care in families’ homes, in the community and at their hospices in Devizes and Corfe Mullen.

The charity now has three shops in Wiltshire and 10 in Dorset. Known for its boutique style interiors, designed using reclaimed materials and quirky fixtures and fittings, Julia’s House has played a leading role in transforming the look and feel of charity shops locally.
