Investigation underway into cause of garage fire in Dorchester

An investigation into the cause of a garage fire in Dorchester is underway.

Five crews were called to tackle the blaze in Mountain Ash Road in the early hours of this morning.

Several roads in the area were closed as a result.

Sharing the latest on the incident, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "This morning at 2.38am, our control room received the first of several 999 calls reporting a property fire in Mountain Ash Road, Dorchester.

"Firefighters from Dorchester and Weymouth initially attended but at the height of the incident we had five fire crews on scene from Dorchester, Weymouth, Maiden Newton, Bere Regis and Yeovil (Devon and Somerset FRS).

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels, main lines and the aerial ladder platform (from Yeovil) to extinguish a fire in a garage which, prior to our arrival, had spread to a neighbouring garage. The stop message was received at 5.35am.

"Firefighters from Dorchester day crew will return to the scene this morning (09 May 2025)to reinspect and offer fire safety advice to neighbouring properties. A fire investigation into the cause of the incident is underway."
